Psychology of Self

Psychology of Self

Stan Klein is an American Psychologist and professor at UCSB. He is largely interested in self, memory, consciousness, evolutionary psychology, neuropsychology, mental time travel, subjective temporality, the philosophy of science, self and memory. He is challenging many of the assumptions pertaining to self, memory, and consciousness, and his book The Two Selves: Their Metaphysical Commitments and Functional Independence is one that every person should read. I had the opportunity to take his course on The Self, which was my favorite class because of the unique and rare way he conveyed the fundamental principles and issues in the field of psychology. The most valuable lesson was that for our understanding to progress, we must question the assumptions held as most true and be cautious about our own assumptions and biases.
